Towards a Participatory Democracy
 When Thomas Jefferson authored the Declaration of Independence, the telephone had yet to be invented. I remember a quote from Jefferson stating that he hadn't heard from Benjamin Franklin in a while (he was in Europe) - so "maybe I ought to write him a letter".
The telephone built onto where the written word left off, providing much more responsive and interactive communications. The Internet is now becoming as ubiquitous as the telephone, allowing instant communications around the globe. With this technology, we may migrate from a representative democracy - where we elect officials to make our laws - to a true participatory democracy. Technology will offer us this opportunity - it is for us to decide how involved we want to be in making our own laws...
